I am really looking forward to hosting a really important discussion on the vexed issue of artists’ exploitation this Friday, the 16th of June. There’s still time to sign up for what will be a very busy session at this link.
The discussion was prompted by the publication of weindustria’s Structurally F*cked text in March, but also by the indivdual stories of artists who had had very unsatisfactory experiences of working with publicly-funded instiutions in the last few years.
There are some great speakers coming to our event- Susan Jones, whose work has been very prominent in this field for a long time, Simon Poulter, the artist Lindsay Seers in her capacity working with FRANK, Ben Callaghan of the Scottish Artists’ Union, and artist and writer Donald Butler. This is a discussion that is not going away, with the publication today of The Illustrated Fair Work Guide by Creative Scotland.
If you can’t make it, the contributors to this event have put together a reading list / resource to enable people to read more and empower themselves in understanding some of the issues that we will raise. The resource will be permanently linked to from here and continually updated- feel free to make your own suggestions in the comments.
You can access the resource list here– hope you’ll be able to join us for the discussion, but if not, that you get good use out of this!
